Cadmium Poisoning Test
Cadmium poisoning test, exposure to Cadmium heavy metals or chemicals or compounds that contain Cadmium can cause Cadmium toxicity in the human body. You could be suffering from Cadmium poisoning symptoms, simple home health check to see your Cadmium exposure levels.
Health related problems caused my Cadmium exposure
Acute exposure to cadmium fumes may cause flu like symptoms including chills, fever, and muscle ache. Symptoms may resolve after a week if there is no respiratory damage. More severe exposures can cause tracheo-bronchitis, pneumonitis, and pulmonary edema.
Cadmium poisoning
Symptoms of Cadmium poisoning inflammation may start hours after the exposure and include cough, dryness and irritation of the nose and throat, headache, dizziness, weakness, fever, chills, and chest pain. Inhaling cadmium-laden dust quickly leads to respiratory tract and kidney problems which can be fatal (often from renal failure).
Ingestion of any significant amount of cadmium causes immediate poisoning and damage to the liver and the kidneys. Compounds containing cadmium are also carcinogenic.
The bones become soft (osteomalacia), lose bone mass and become weaker (osteoporosis). This causes the pain in the joints and the back, and also increases the risk of fractures. In extreme cases of cadmium poisoning, the mere body weight causes a fracture.
The kidneys lose their function to remove acids from the blood in proximal renal tubular dysfunction. The kidney damage inflicted by cadmium poisoning is irreversible and does not heal over time.
The proximal renal tubular dysfunction creates low phosphate levels in the blood (hypophosphatemia), causing muscle weakness and sometimes coma.
The dysfunction also causes gout, a form of arthritis due to the accumulation of uric acid crystals in the joints because of high acidity of the blood (hyperuricemia).
Another side effect is increased levels of chloride in the blood (hyperchloremia). The kidneys can also shrink up to 30%. Other patients lose their sense of smell (anosmia).
Contents of Cadmium test kit
- 1 Colour strip on box of the kit
- 1 Test Instruction Sheet
- 1 Test-tube
- 1 vial with clear cap - Reagent 1
- 1 vial with red cap - Reagent 2
- 1 vial with yellow cap - Reagent 3
Preparation of Cadmium poisoning test kit
- Remove the 3 vials from the test tube
- In the empty test-tube, add 5 ml. of the solution to be tested
- The solution is now ready for testing
Conducting the test For Cadmium heavy metals
- Add all the content from the clear-cap vial (Reagent 1) to the test-tube containing the solution to be tested
- Close the test-tube and shake slightly and gently to mix the solutions.
- Add all the content from the red-cap vial (Reagent 2) to the mixed solutions in the test-tube
- Close the test-tube and shake slightly and gently to mix the solutions.
- Add all the content from the yellow-cap vial (Reagent 3) to the mixed solutions in the test-tube
- Close the test-tube and shake slightly and gently to mix the solutions.
- Wait 2 minutes and compare with colour strip
NB. Please be careful not to cause any foam to be formed when shaking the test tube
How to test for Cadmium in the body
- Add the required volume of the sample solution (saliva, water, urine, etc) to be tested into the test tube
- Close with the cap and shake gently. Allow the solutions to stand on the cap of the test tube for 1 minute.
- A colour change will indicate the presence of Cadmium (chart on label of kit).
Results from Cadmium testing kit
Result is measured accurately in parts per million. Tests the presence of ions of Cadmium to a high degree of accuracy to detect contamination in the body and on a wide range of materials in your environment
Cadmium heavy metal testing water preparation
No preparation is necessary for testing water for Cadmium.
