Cobalt Poisoning Test
Cobalt poisoning test, exposure to Cobalt heavy metals or chemicals or compounds that contain Cobalt (VI) can cause Cobalt toxicity in the human body. You could be suffering from Cobalt poisoning symptoms, simple home health check to see your Cobalt exposure levels.
Health related problems caused my Cobalt exposure
Cobalt poisoning is the intoxication which takes place when the levels of cobalt or a compound containing cobalt inside the human body increase to levels that are unsafe. Cobalt is a naturally occurring substance in the human body in minute amounts and forms part of the structure of Vitamin B12. However, when concentrations of Cobalt increase beyond a safe limit, cobalt is highly toxic and can cause death.
Cobalt poisoning
Several studies have shown that Cobalt compounds can increase the risk of respiratory problems, and can be a contributing factor to hard metal lung disease. Cobalt is also thought to increase free radicals in the body, which in turn may then cause the production of further free radicals which can result in oxidative stress that leads to DNA and cellular protein damage. Studies also suggest that Cobalt can decreases synthesis of several enzymes.
Contents of Cobalt test kit
-
1 Colour strip on box of the kit
-
1 Test Instruction Sheet
-
1 Large Test-tube
-
1 Indicator stick
1 vial with clear cap - Reagent 1 (contains 10% sulfuric acid and care must be taken as it is corrosive - please avoid contact with skin or eyes)
Preparation of test for Cobalt
- Remove the indicator stick and small vial from the large test tube
- In the empty large test-tube, add 5 ml. of the solution to be tested
- The solution is now ready for testing
Conducting the test for Cobalt toxins
- Pour the contents from clear-cap vial (colourless Reagent 1) into the large test-tube. Note: the pH of this solution to be tested should be at 1 or less at this time
- Put the indicator stick into the mixed solutions (now turned acidic) in the large test-tube for one (1) second. Note: The reaction surface of the indicator stick must be completely immersed into the mixed solutions in the large test-tube
- Remove the indicator stick from the large test-tube and wait for 15 seconds
- Compare the colour on the reaction surface of the indicator stick to that of the colour strip provided
How to test for Cobalt in the body
- Add the required volume of the sample solution (saliva, water, urine, etc) to be tested for Cobalt into the test tube
- Close with the cap and shake gently. Allow the solutions to stand on the cap of the test tube for 1 minute.
- A colour change will indicate the presence of Cobalt (chart on label of kit).
Results from Cobalt testing kit
Result is measured accurately in parts per million. Tests the presence of ions of Cobalt to a high degree of accuracy to detect contamination in the body, water and on a wide range of materials in your environment
