Some info about Zinc and Covid-19...
Zinc may boost your immune system, but it won’t prevent you from getting coronavirus.
One theory gaining traction online is that the use of zinc supplements can help prevent the coronavirus from spreading in the respiratory system.
However, according to Associate Professor in Cellular Microbiology at the University of Reading, Dr Simon Clarke, that claim is rubbish. “Classic over-interpretation,” he said. “This would cure much – but not all – of the common cold if it were true.” Dr Clarke added, however, that zinc can help by boosting your immune system and therefore making you more resilient overall.
One of the studies being promoted online is that in a controlled trial, 25 volunteers took about 13 mg of zinc in the form of zinc acetate and 25 took a placebo every 2-3 hours as long as they had cold symptoms. The results were statistically significant. The zinc group had a shorter average duration of colds, 4.5 days versus 8 days. The total zinc taken was about 80 mg a day, which although well above the daily requirement, should not cause any problems over such a short period. We would not recommend taking excessive intake of zinc supplements over a prolonged period unless otherwise directed to by your GP or a medical professional.
At Nova Health Products, we welcome the interest in our products including our Zinc supplements, however we'd like to express that you will be boosting your immune system in general and not be purchasing a proven remedy to Covid-19.
Other Vitamin and Mineral Supplements that boost your immune system again should be viewed as beneficial but not a remedy or proven to prevent or cure you from Covid-19.
